Question Slow hair growth 3 year old

Hi,
my 3 year old daughter still does not have much hair (she has yet to have a hair cut!!) It's thick, and there are no bald spots, but at this rate, she will be a teenager before it's long enough to even get a pony tail! Both dh and I have thick curly hair, so this is a mystery to us . Has anyone else experienced a child with very slow hair growth? Will the growth speed up??
Thanks,
Lynne

Question Re: Slow hair growth 3 year old

My friend has a little girl, five she is. She was born bald and stayed that way till last year, her hair has now grown nearly up to her shoulders, with blond waves, Her mum now says all the stressing she did when she was bald is now worth it, as she has the most beautifull hair any one could ask for. maybe it is the same with your child, when she finally gets it, it will be perfect.(maybe perfect hair takes longer to grow)?.
Hope i have made you feel better.
sweetie

Re: Slow hair growth 3 year old

Hello!
I also have a 3 1/2 year old daughter who hardly has any hair. She has never had a haircut. It has grown maybe an inch over the past 6 months! Her hair isn't very thick, but there are no bald areas. It just won't grow! It does seem to come out quite a bit. When she wakes up in the morning, it is all over her back. I have had her thyroid tested and a complete blood count test and both came back normal. I have been so worried about her. Both my husband and I had lots of hair by her age. Anyway, I just had to post b/c my daughter has the same problem.

Re: Slow hair growth 3 year old

Hi there,
I have 4 kids. 2 stayed bald as eagles until they were well into 3. Of course consult your doctor if you think it is a real problem. My 2 oldest one's have beautiful hair and my 2 little ones' are still working on it.

Re: Slow hair growth 3 year old

My three and a half year old daughter's hair just does not grow. She has never had a hair cut. I and many others have noticed her hair appears much shorter and thinner now than it ever use to. She visited her grandmother several months ago and she commented that she is STILL finding my daughter's hair in the bed where she slept. I have noticed that she sheds A LOT yet she has no bald spots. I have been concerned about all of this myself. Her sister has had many many hair cuts and just turned 5 and I cut it off to her shoulders and in less than a year it was to the middle of her back again. Yet my 3 yr old's still doesn't grow. It seems very strange to me and I keep wondering if there is something wrong with her.

Thumbs up Re: Slow hair growth 3 year old

I have a four year old daughter with very short blond curly hair. We call her banana-top. I cannot wait for it to grow longer. I cant even brush out the curls; when I do, her hair would reach her chin if it didnt stand straight up. I fully sympathize with you all. However my three year old son's hair reached cutting point at three months of age. It's all in the genes.

Question Re: Slow hair growth 3 year old

My granddaughter is now 4 and I worry about her hair it is very thin and short it is blond and there are no bald spots. It doesn't appear to shed alot but it gets frizzy if it is not blown out with a blow dryer which takes about a minute. No one else in either side of the family has had this type of hair and she has a sister with hair so thick it can hardly be combed through. She is a picky eater but takes a multivitamin. I worry alot because she will be starting school next fall and she could be teased about her lack of hair. I understand how you feel. I hope there are some answers as what to do for a child with verry thin short hair.
