Bloody Nose with my 1.5 year old

I was wondering what would cause my daugther of 1.5 years old to have bloody nose. She has had two today and I am not worried but concerned.

I have read all about smoke, mold, and allergies. I have allergies and i get them frequent and was wandering if she has them as well.

My mom would have frequent nose bleeds and I did too, all caused by allergies. I would discuss this with her pediatrician.

Getting her allergy tested wouldn't hurt!

Re: Bloody Nose with my 1.5 year old

My daughter gets frequent nose bleeds due to a blood vessel in her nose that is to close to the surface she sees an ent and he has me put neosporin in her nose every day to keep it moist. It is pretty common to start happing this time of year if it is dry. Dr says it is okay doesn't hurt her. I would recommend seeing her ped if it keeps happing.

Re: Bloody Nose with my 1.5 year old

Hello, A lot of kids get nose bleeds. Nose bleeds do not necessarily mean allergies. I had nose bleeds when I was a child and so does my son. I hate the nose bleeds. We get them when we sleep. I read on a website that nose bleeds in children are common and nothing to be worried about, unless the nose bleeds get so bad that you can't stop them. In adults, it's a sign of hypertension. The nose bleeds can be caused by dry air, (especially dry heat) fragle blood vessels that are too close to the surface of the inside of the nose, or accidently scratching the inside of the nose with a finger nail from picking the nose. (Some children pick thier noses.)

You'll probably need to get a cool mist vaporizer to add humidity to the room at night. Now a days they have humidifiers, I don't know if that would be better. We also put vasoline (petroleum jelly) in our son's nose with a cotton swab/Q-tip at night. The vasoline keeps the nose moist. We learned that trick from our Ped. It works quite well. Not too many nose bleeds anymore. I forget at what age I stopped having nose bleeds. Does anyone else, who had childhood nose bleeds, know when they stopped having them?
