2 year old with flu...How long will this last?

Hi,
We took my 2 year old to the ER on Monday with a high fever. They did some throat swabs and she tested positive for influenza. They also started her on an anti-viral medicine. We followed up with her ped yesterday(she seemed to be doing better) and he said the worst of it was over and she should be better within a day or two...especially since she had had a flu shot. Well, last night she seemed to be acting like her normal self again and her fever was down. Then, this morning she woke up screaming...I ran into her room and she was burning up. I took her temp and it was 104.4! I almost took her back to the ER, but it came down to 102 within 20 minutes after giving her Motrin.

Is it normal for her to have this high of a temp after 6 days? How long does the flu typically last in children this young?

I would greatly appreciate any input. Thanks!

Well let me say that getting over the flu can take up to 2 weeks or more. Everyone is different. Are her teeth bothering her?

Some people get really high fevers. Rather than watching the numbers, I think the most important thing to watch is her behavior. If she's behaving normally, I wouldn't be too worried about it. If she seems to be more lethargic, definately see your doctor again. The most important thing is to trust your instinct.

Still, it sounds like she should be over her fever after 6 days. Is she getting lots of vitamin C, lots of rest and lots of good food?
