I have 2 children, 7 and 4. My daughter was having the same problem for about 3 years. My son had a constant 'cold for about a year and a half'. He had a runny nose the whole time he was teething. With my daughter, it was different. It was much worse and seemed to start and stop on a whim. No warning at all. I found that my son was constantly touching her and she him...on the face. They were passing the germs back and forth constantly.
We solved the problem by ensuring the kids wash thier hands before touching any food or each others faces. It has worked well for about a year. They still get colds but they last a couple of days and go away. The kids are not allowed to touch peoples faces at all anymore...this is a rule!
Both my wife and I work in schools. There are children constantly hacking all over the place. We wash before touching any food, wherever we are (includes restaurants), and wash before touching the kids. We also supplement the kids with a natural multivitamin, 150mg C, and B when they are sick. It has made a huge difference.
We keep regualar soap (not antibacterial which does more harm than good) at every sink and use it religiously. Good luck!
