Post 6yr olds health problems

i have a 6 year old son, who is in general good health (doesn't normaly get sick a lot). What is bothering me is that he's got huge tonsils, i took him to the doctor when i noticed them, so now he's got an apointment to see a specialist (not for another month), and he's going to get blood work done next week. On friday he came down with an infection, i took him to the doctors today (not his family doctor though) and she perscribed antibiotics, but his throat isn't that sore, he can still swallow, his lyphnodes just below his jaw are swolen, which is normal, but he's also got a swollen area a few inches below his jaw line on the left hand side of his neck, which the doctor was a little puzzled by, so she suggested he go see his family doctor on tuesday which he will be doing.
I'm just wondering if the 2 things could be related, here are all of the problems that i think may be related:
He's very skinny dispite eating alot
his tonisils and adnoids are so large he's not getting as much sleep as he needs to
he doesnt' always look healthy, bags under his eyes etc, but that may be related to the sleeping problem.
he will occasionally get a sore throat for a nite (with swollen glands) but is fine the next day.
Aside from those things he's generaly heatlhy, doesn't get colds often, this is the first infection he's had since he was a toddler.
I'm going to talk to my doctor about all of these things on tuesday and hopefully the specialist will have more information to offer on this, but it would be nice if i could find someone else who has gone through this.

Has you son ever been evaluated for allergies. What you described sounds similar to my 7 year old son with allergies. Just an idea...

no, he's never been checked out for them. I think it may have something to do with my apartment though, the carpets need to be replaced and there was some leaking (not sever, but it's a basement apartment, so who knows whats inside the walls), we're moving soon so things may get better with that. He's got an appointment with a specialist soon for his tonsils and adnoids, so i'll wait and see what he says.
The swollen lymph nodes were an infection, he had a strep test, momo test plus general blood tests (cbc, diff), and everything came back fine. He seems to be doing better now.
What exactly was wrong with your daughter? how did you find out it was allergy's?

My understanding is that the tonsils are a part of a persons lymph system, and an important component in immune defense. They help to prevent respiratory infection, and are a first line of defense for biological contaminants entering through the mouth. Something which may not be as well known is that they are the "Sulphur Sacks" in the body: They store the mineral sulphur, which is known as a detoxifying mineral. A sore throat sometimes is a sign of either a lack of sulphur, or that the body is using up it's reserves in the "Sulphur Sacks".

If I were you, I would find ways to get more sulphur into your child's diet: Garlic, onions, bananas, eggs, and cruciferous vegetables can help. Cooking the vegetables will knock out the sulphur though, and so will consuming saturated or rancid fats.

I would also consider using "MSM" which is the type of sulphur the body utilizes. You can find it at any health food store. As an added benefit for the future, adolescent acne will not be a problem.

Personally I have always been thin, and a nutritionist I knew found it to be: Inability to properly process and absorb fats due to a lack of sulphur in my diet. I actually gained 3 pounds when he put me on a sulphur regimen.

All the best to you and yours
