Still babbles - Children's Health Message Board

Hi everyone...

My son is 14 and a half months old. He still only babbles saying things like dadadadadadada, and that's it. Doesn't say "mama" or "dada" discriminately (sp?), and hasn't said really anything else. He said damn once, but I think that was a fluke. Being a first time mom, I don't know if this is normal or not or if I need to take him to a speech therapist. Any information is helpful! Thanks!

My daughter didn't say much of anything untill after her 2nd birthday...some kids just talk late..try playing games with him to get him to immatate a sound and things like that. Also take him to his doctor and see if he/she thinks there may be something wrong just to be on the safe side. My first child was talking up a storm at 14 months my second didn't say anything...so all kids are very different...but like i already said take a trip to the doctor just to be on the safe side...but my guess is he's fine.

Boy are naturally slower in developement then girls. I was told bye my sons doctor that it's quit common for boys not to talk untill they are two if they are the first born. Unfortunantly for my son, he didn't start talking in sentences untill just before his 5th birthday because he had autism. But I wouldn't worry about that in your case....your son is still very young. My sister has 3 boys, and they didn't start talking untill between 2 and 2 1/2. Just start reading to him alot, maybe you can sign him up for some mommy and me classes so he can socialize with other kids, etc....the more his mind the stimulated, the the easier it will be for him to want to talk.

My son is 17 months old and he's not talking, at least not in the english language! He abbble babble babbles and as long as he is doing that, I am not worried. they all learn at different rates. Soon he will be jabbering your ear off. Not too worry.

Einstein didn't start talking until he was 3 years old. Each child develops differently.

If you're really worried, have his hearing checked by an audiologist. In order to speak intellegibly, one must hear accurately.
