Recurrent Fevers - Children's Health Message Board

Help!! My son has been on antibotics for 3 month. Everytime he goes off his fever comes back. (With in 3 to 4 days) The doc can not tell me why. We had spinal tap, x-ray, mri, chest scan. All of which are negative. Has anyone run into this and can you help me and my doc help my son?

I am wondering if it isn't time to ask your doc for a referral to a specialist to find out what is going on. 3 months is long enough for your regular doc to try to figure things out. Now it seems like time to see the specialist. Call the docs office and ask for a referral.

Suggest you read the posts on PFAPA ['Rare Disorders' topics category] to see if these parents' stories sound familiar.

If your docs did a spinal tap [lumbar puncture], I'm assuming that they also did some genetic [DNA] tests. There are some single-gene disorders where recurrent fevers and/or infections are a key symptom - so this might be another area for you to search.

Up date on my son. He has been well for 2 months now. All blood work looks good and fever is gone. They dont know what caused him to run the fever for so long. They "guessed" he just kept getting one cold or another. All is well for now and I thank God every day for this!
