Teething??? - Children's Health Message Board

Hello. I am the father of a gorgeous 15 month old baby boy. He really is the light of my life. Since last Thursday though he has sometimes been waking up in the night screaming and it has taken a good hour/hour and a half to settle him. My wife really is at her wits end because he doesnt have a temperature and when he wakes up in the morning he is his usual smiley self. My wife thinks it might be belly ache as he sometimes scrunches up but something i have noticed him doing is putting his fingers in his mouth until he gags whilst he is crying as if he is trying to bite on something. It just seems odd that he has no temperature and it comes in fits and spurts as most of the time he can be his normal cheerful self and then all of a sudden have a crying fit that lasts an hour and its a bit upsetting as i cant take the pain away. By the way he has his front teeth and i was wondering if when the back teeth come through they are particularly painful.

he could be getting his molars. Try giving him some tylenol or advil before bed (a pharmasist told me advil tends to work better for teething pain, not sure why), you can also try ambisol, if it's teething pain than you should know right away using that, also getting him some freezies or popsicles. Have you tried asking him what hurts? he may not understand at his age, but it's worth a try if you haven't.
