Post my 3-months old baby spit up fomula

I have been breastfeeding my 3 months old baby since he was born. Now I want to change to fomula. After eating just a little fomula, he spit up all the milk. Then he spit up two times afterwards. Is he allergic to the fomula? What should I do if I want to change to feed fomula?

Thats quite a switch for a lil one...it may be just your baby's way of adjusting to the formula.
It may take a few days, I know with my daughter, my doctor had me switch her from Dairy to Soy formula, and he said to be prepared, that she may take a few days to get used to it because its something new.And could spit up or even worse throw up.Luckiy she didnt have a bad reaction and only spit up a couple times. And formula doesnt break down as easily as breast milk, for the baby to digest.
Dont let it go on too long though, without talking to the baby's doctor, because the baby wont be gett'n the right nutrients by spitting it up all the time....and may be hungry more often too.( Kind of like you when ya have the flu, ya lose weight if ya keep throwing up) good Luck!

your baby is probably reacting to the protien in the formula, you should ask your doctor which is the best to start your baby out on, some formulas are easier to digest than otherse. formula contains cow protiens and they are harder to digest than the ones found in your breast milk, i had the same problems the first few times i tried my 9month old on diary products...if your baby is spitting up a lot than you can try the soy formula untill your baby is a bit older and the digestive tract is more mature and able to handle the regular formula better

Even a baby who has been exposed to milk protein thru breastmilk will not show an immediate reaction the first time they drink formula usually, so my thought is possibly air bubbles from the bottle caused the spitting up. That is the #1 cause of spitting up in bottle fed babies. Liquid tends to flow more quickly out of a bottle, causing the baby to swallow air with the liquid. Try frequent burping.

Vomiting caused by an allergic reaction is usually forceful - projectile vomiting. There are also other symptoms that often go with it, like eczema or hives. My sone is severely allergic to milk protein, and he did not show a reaction until the 5th time he had formula. He was breastfed, and the formula was a rare thing, but I drank espressos with milk in them all the time. That in itself was not enough to sensitize him to milk.

If, after a couple days, your baby is still spitting up the formula, try using a more gentle formula like Carnation Good Start. If you suspect an allergic reaction, talk to the pediatrician about what would be best for your baby.

I have a now 2 yo that had severe vomiting we suspected from the formula. The Docs don't really know. It was a year ago. It went on for so long he was hospitalized for dehydration from excessive vomiting.

You may want to consider switching formulas to see if it helps. We got our little guy onto soy formula and the vomiting desipated (sp??) after a couple of weeks.

You may want to call your local teaching or Childrens hospital for a GI consultation.
