I tried switching my daughter to a bottle when she was four months old, after only being breast fed. It was not an easy task and she was not a very willing participant. It took someone else giving her the bottle, and even then, she didn't eat until around 5:00 p.m. that day. The pediatrician told me that when she got hungry enough, she'd eat--and he was right. But, I had to totally stop nursing her as of that day. She was my first child. When my son was born, I made sure that he got one bottle of formula every day, beginning the first night in the hospital. It did make life simpler, I remember, because I tried to time the bottle feeding for when we were "out and about," doing things. Good luck.
