Lump on Neck of a 3 year old boy

Hi:
I am a very worried mom. My son who is 3 yrs old now in Sept. 25th has a lump on the side of his neck. Right side. It started off a few yrs ago as a lil tiny ball on his neck and it is now the size of a gumball or quarter. I believe. It doesnt hurt him, its not red, it doesnt seem to bother him at all. His pediatrician has done several blood test for lyme disease, catscratch, white blood cells, and everything came back normal both times the tests were taken from 2 different pediatricians. I am really concerned cuz it has grown in size in the past 2 yrs. I dont know what else to do. Should I keep switching pediatricians? HELP Please anyone with this problem or any suggestions would be helpful. He has also had his adenoids and tonsils removed back in february of this year.

Thank You:
Worried sick mom in Boston

Re: Lump on Neck of a 3 year old boy

I would take him to see a specialist and demand ever test they can possibly do to rule out everything you can think of. I have a relative that has always had a lump in his neck and after several tests, they found that it is just an enlarged lymph node and doesn't really have any significance. Good luck and keep us posted. Hopefully someone here has more experience with this and can point you in the right direction as far as what type of specialist to see and so on and so forth.

Re: Lump on Neck of a 3 year old boy

I dont know if you will see this as this post is a couple weeks old but i am going through the same thing and came here looking for answers. My 3 year old son has had a swollen gland on the left side of his neck for over a year. It does seem to be slow growing but I have seen others in the same area become huge then go down but no infection seems accompany the sweelings. He has other wierd sympmtoms like drenching cold night sweats, nausea, vomiting, asthma, and severe leg pain where he cries and screams and theres nothing I can do to help. These symtoms have been getting more frequent over the last year. I am afraid he has cancer but i am a paranoid mom. I have taken him to the Dr several times and have had blood work that shows anemia but no other abnormalities and Dr thinks its b/c he really doesnt eat so i have been giving him multivitimins. Also took an xray of his legs and it shows nothing but I am thinking of having them redone since these tests were about 8 months ago. I feel lost and I am very worried for my son. You certainly are not alone and hopfully we just have cases of reactive lymph nodes

Re: Lump on Neck of a 3 year old boy

Madeepooh and Themamalisa - did the docs do any imaging (catscan, x rays, MRI)? My 6 year old son came up with a lump in his cheek. It was swollen like somebody hit him. Didn't hurt or bother him in any way. It popped up while being treated for a sinus infection - after several different antibiotics, the sinus infection went away but not the swelling. What turned out to be what we thought swelling in his sinuses resulted in gonig for two catscans, an MRI, and a trip to the childrens hospital to an ear nose and throat specialist. It turned out to be a LYMPHATIC MALFORMATION. After the ENT specialist showed us the images, it looks like it has been there for a long time, because it was actually pressing against his cheek bone casuing an indentation. It turns out that it is not cancerous and not a tumor. Thank the Lord! It is a mass of lymph vessels that are clustered together. They can be there for a long time and sometimes it takes a virus or infection to aggrevate them to a noticeable size. Because of it's location near the optic area on the face, the doctor is suggesting we have it removed. It was quite scary and very stressful going throught these tests. But, through many days of prayer, hopefully this is something that can be taken care of quite easily. This will be about a 1.5 hour surgery and may require only a one night stay in the hospital. They will remove the mass throug is mouth under his lip. There may be a possibilty it can come back. Note to all parents...please have your children checked out of any suspicious lumps. Catching these things soon enough can make the world of difference in treatments. They took a sinus catscan first, then a facial catscan that showed the mass, from here they ordered the MRI to get further characteristics of the mass and proper diagnosis. Good luck - I know you can't help but worry. My son will have surgery in two weeks - and I STILL worry about it!!

Go demand more tests, especially an mri, the night sweats are worrying but a lot of little children sweat heavily at night, so it may not be anything, but he has a few symptoms that i as a mother wouldnt not leave.

Change your Doctor if you dont get any answers, hes yur baby, dont leave it but also try not to worry too much. Good luck

Hi - I don't know if you'll read this message or not, but my son has had the same symptoms: swollen glands since birth (they go up and down in size), leg pain, neck pain, headache. The bloodwork comes back good, Thank God! but he still has these symptoms. I am really at the end of my wits, and worried sick, but don't know what to do.
