HELP! 5 year old daughter's hair not growing

my daughter is 5 yrs old. Healthy, growth normal, no symtoms other than her hair is very dry and does not grow. Her hair is thin and not even. Her hair is from 3 to 6 inches long, what I mean by that is patches of her hair are all different lengths. the back of her hair doesn't even touch her neck. the most of her hair is at the top of her head but the back and sides barely any. I have asked several Doctors and they all say "don't worry some kids hair grows slow" Her hair is very coarse and she is very embarrased when people talk about her hair. Please help. If anyone knows or can tell me where to find answers please help.
Thank you,
Melissa
and daughter Gloria

Re: HELP! 5 year old daughter's hair not growing

I see that you posted this question some time ago, so I hope that you get this reply. My 5 year old daughter' hair is the EXACT same way! It grows unevenly, and is dry, coarse and brittle. I had brought it to her pedi's attention for years, always for my concern to be brushed aside. However, just this past month, she has been diagnosed with acquired hypothyroidism---which is probably why her hair never grew! Her linear growth had dropped down to the 3rd percentile and that prompted a referral to a pediatric endocrinologist. If your daughter's overall growth has slowed down, this may be worth looking in to. I hope I helped.
