Raspy, Scratchy Voice
My seven year old son's school requested to evaluate my son's voice quality to see if he meets crieria for speech language services. This involves seeing an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist. They say that it is a routine part of enrolling a child is speech class. The form they gave us describes him in glowing terms: "He is a good on grade level student with no need for extra services in retulatr education program. He is very well behaved, verbal, loud, athletic 7 year old with a strong self esteem that he uses in the best of ways." The reason for there concern is that they say he has a raspy, scratchy voice, which usually manifests itself late in the school day. They stressed that there's no reason to be alarmed at this point and that this is somewhat common with "verbal, loud, athletic" boys. He is, in fact, quite loud. When doing jumping jacks before football games, you can hear him scream out the numbers over all others. Still, raspy, scratcy voice seems has me somewhat concerned. What could be the causes? Is this fairly common?
