Why does my daughter keep getting yeast infections? - Children's Health Message Board

She is 21 months old and this is the 5th time she's had one. Is this common? I use desitin creamy at every diaper change except when she has a yeast infection I used the Nystatin that's prescribed. I just got rid of one she had a couple weeks ago and now she's getting another one. I know because the desitin does absolutely no good at clearing it up and it always clears up a normal little rash.

Could it be anything she's eating? I do change her diaper often so I know it's not from sitting in pee for a long period of time. Any advice would help. Thanks!!!

Has your LO been on antibiotics? This can sometimes cause yeast infections. If so, talk to your Doctor about her taking a Probiotic.

My SIL's baby did this.. it was a sign of and allergic reaction to her formula.. she had to go through all of them and finally ended on the 30 bucks a can kind. Neutra something. So yes it is possible it is not a cleanliness thing, but a diet thing. Talk to your MD about probiotics. If you have had her on antibiotics this can be a side effect as well.

could she be having a reaction to her diapers, or wipes? i've been using the same brand of wipes with my daughter ever since she was born (she is turning two this month), and all of a sudden she is sensitive to them and got a yeast infection because of it - not sure the technical reasons why, but when i quit using those wipes, she started getting better, but when i started using them again, she got worse again!

also, i think using baby powder had something to do with making it worse too!

she cleared up fairly quickly when we switched from nystatin to lotrimin (antifungal cream - ask your pharmacist about it), and started using totally rinsed out baby wipes (or a wet paper towel, or a baby washcloth), and we use the hair dryer on her bottom before we put her diaper back on.

BUT, i'm with you. i think this is my daughter's 3rd yeast infection in less than 6 months and that's too many in my opinion! if you come up with any other ideas of why, let me know!

As a previous poster mentioned, I would stop using wipes. Many wipes are "antibacterial" except they wipe out the good bacteria down there that aids in fighting off infections. A warm, damp cloth should do the job just fine!
