Daughter fell and hit her privates...injuring herself.

My 6 yr old was standing on a wooden children's chair (cheaply made) tonight and lost balance.

She had one foot on the seat and the other balancing over the back side. When she fell she hit her privates pretty hard. The back part of the chair broke.

I took her to her room to check her out and I nearly freaked out when I saw blood on her panties. I put a wet hand towel on her injury and tried to figure out where she cut herself.

I called the dr on call figuring I would have to go into the emergency room but she told me to put ice on her and if I needed peace of mind then I should take her to see her dr tomorrow..which I am doing.

I checked to see where she was cut but I cant find anything, just a little bruise between the leg and where her privates begin. She had some stringy blood which seemed to be coming from her vaginal area. She stopped bleeding and I am so upset that this happened.

The dr on call made it sound like this happens all of the time but I am having a hard time with it. Has anyone ever experienced this with their child?

Re: Daughter fell and hit her privates...injuring herself.

I remember something similar actually happening to me when I was a little younger than your daughter. I slipped getting out of the bathtub whith one leg still in the tub & one leg out. I know I didn't go to the hospital or anything, but I remember there being blood. Definitely keep an eye on it to see if it swells at all, there may just be the little bruise there & as long as there is no more blood I would think it's okay. And if for peace of mind you want to take her to the Dr. just go, better to be too safe than not. Hope she feels better

Re: Daughter fell and hit her privates...injuring herself.

It happened to me when I was little. I was standing on the pedals on my bike and my feet slipped off and I hit the metal bar in the middle of the bike. We never went to a doctor. I don't think anything is wrong with your child, it happens, heals, and becomes a distant memory. I am trying to figure out what could really go wrong, but I can't think of anything.

She might have torn her hymen. In that case, she would bleed a little, but be fine soon.

Yes that same thing happened to one of my daughters when she was like 3 or 4?...anyway she landed on a wooden doll bed and it freaked me out too. I took her right to the doctor but nothing he could do except to do what you are doing. They can't really 'look' inside of her so just do what you are doing and I don't think you need to go to the doctor...nothing that he can do anyway and the blood is probably coming from a scrape on the inside but again nothing doc can do anyway. She is young and she will heal quickly. I think doctors hear this all the time. good luck.
