My 5 yr old swallowed a Penny

Hi

Its now been almost 48 hrs and the penny still has not came out. (checking poop) His stools are a mix between being soft and running with some hard pieces and it has a bad smell. He went to the doctor yesterday and had a x-ray. Doc said its in the intestines. Should be out soon. Well he is a very fussy eater and does not eat much. Can this make it take longer to get through the digestive tract.

Anyone with in sight thank you.

Depends if your child has a bowel movement everyday or not.

Re: My 5 yr old swallowed a Penny

He does have a bowel movement everyday. As of right now he has had 4 since Sunday when he swallowed it and still no penny. I am alittle worried. Can it take more than a week to come out. Waiting now to see what the doctor has to say .

Do you think you may have missed it?? When I was about that age maybe a bit older I swallowed a polished rock, we never saw it though. Good Luck,

Re: My 5 yr old swallowed a Penny

I have checked his bowel movements every day and he has not passed it. He doesnt have any stomach pain no vomiting or fevers. I am just concerned that it will cause issues with ulcers or something at a later date. Call me crazy but this is insane.

Re: My 5 yr old swallowed a Penny

Well its been a week since it went down and still has not came out. I spoke with a Ped. Gastronoglist (sp) I was told it could take up to 2 weeks. WOW seems like a long time. My son has been doing good. No complaints of stomach pain and anything else thats goes along with it. He has a little decreased appetite. However hes a picky eater anyway. I hope it comes out soon. This checking the stool is getting old!!!

Hope every one has a good week.

I would not get too concerned. I bet this happens a whole lot more often than we realize.
