Hi everyone,
At my sons 18 mo check up, his doctor couldn't find his left testicle. Every check up he's had since he was born, the doctor has checked (except the 12 month check), and sometimes it was up quite high, and sometimes it was where it was supposed to be. I'm not sure if the doctor forgot to check when ds was a year or what, but at 18 mo, when he couldn't find the left testicle at all, he mentioned that by 1 year, both should be down permanently. So he sent us to have an ultrasound done, which we had yesterday (it takes a long time to get in--he's now 19.5mo), and the ultrasound showed both testicles where they should be.
Now in the meantime, I've been doing research on this (however, not too much), and I worry that if the "hole" for lack of a better term, that it decended down from when he was in utero isn't closed off, he will have problems with hernias, and also with this testicle being retractile for the rest of his life, which I worry could cause him to have fertility issues, or God forbid, testicular cancer.
Does anybody know anything about this? Like I said, I haven't done too much research on this, so I could be WAY off base with my worries (that wouldn't be out of the ordinary for me!), but from what I remember reading low or no sperm count in the "dissapearing" testicle and testicular cancer are a couple of the side affects that he could have. I'm still waiting to hear from his doctor with what he has to say about the u/s results. I thought when the technician was doing the u/s she should've been checking to see if that hole had closed off in his belly, and not just looking at the testicles themselves. I told her the issue (what the doctor said), so she was completely aware of why she was doing the u/s, and she conversed with another doctor about it when she was done, so I'm not sure if she checked for what she should've been looking for...
Anyway, any replies are appreciated!
