Ear tubes and adenoid removal surgery

Just looking for advice here. My dd has had so many ear infections since 6 mo old, she is now just over 2 years. For the past 6 months, she's had 10 ear infections, all back to back. She's been on every antibiotic out there. I'm not really for the antibiotic, but what can I do? Finally I got referred to a pediatric ENT. She had just finished up an antibiotic and her ears were clear when the specialist checked her. Sure enough, I knew within 2 days that her infections came back. I scheduled her for tubes and adenoid removal (that is what the specialist is thinking the main problem is). She'll be in on the 5th. I guess I'm just nervous. I was so against the tubes, but now I'm desperate for them. My little girl is so cranky all the time and I would be too if my head felt like it was in a vice all the time. Plus she never eats when she is on an antibiotic.

Looking for others who have been thru this for some advice on recovery. I know just the tubes would not be that big of a deal, but with the adenoids I'm a little more concerned. And how long should she be out of daycare before I take her back? Anything other than pain medicine to help her?

I also know this is a fairly common procedure, but I'm terrified out of my mind. On the other hand I'm looking for how she is going to be when she's healthy and not down all the time.

Re: Ear tubes and adenoid removal surgery

Looks like your dd may have already had the surgery, and hopefully everything went well. My little one had that at 10 months old, and he was doing well within a day. If tonsils were included, that would be a little tougher. Let me know how everything went.

Re: Ear tubes and adenoid removal surgery

Hey Trooper.....I too am guessing everything went well. My daughter had her tonsils and adenoid removed as well as having tubes put in her ears at the age of 2 and a half. So, she was about the same age as your daughter. Hands down was the best thing that I ever did. Prior to the surgery, she constantly had ear infections, strep throat, and was always on antibiotics. Now, she is almost 15 years old and hasn't had strep throat at all since then, and only a few ear infections. So, for us....it was the best thing we ever did for our daughter.

Re: Ear tubes and adenoid removal surgery

best thing also for my daughter. she had her tubes and adenoids removied at 20 months...she's 6 1/2 now and has probably had 3 colds since then and NO ear infections. She was even getting them in the summer. she was out of daycare for two days....totaly would do it !
