9 year old leaking from vagina - Children's Health Message Board

My stepddaughter turns 9 on Friday. Last week she said when she was in the tub, she felt liquid run out of her and it was not urine. Because you can stop urine and she couldn't stop this, is what she said.
She just spent the weekend with her mom and when she came home she told me when she woke up one morning, her underwear were soaked. And it wasn't pee. She's scared something's going to happen in school. I gave her a pantyliner to wear this morning before school. It makes her feel better.
What is it? Is this something that happens before the start of her period?
She's just so young.

Never heard of such a thing, but I would make sure she went to the pediatrician and got a good checkup.

I remember having a lot of vaginal discharge before I started my period, but I don't remember it being so watery (which is what she seems to be describing). Anyway, I would take her to the doctor (preferably female) as well, to check it out.
