| Spider Veins in a child?
Hi,
My 4-year old son has spider veins on his left thigh. He's had this since he was 2 years old. When he was an infant, we saw an orthopedic surgeon because his left thigh was fatter than the right. He said he just had extra blood cells in his leg, so we left it alone. When we noticed the spider veins, we went to a hematologist. There is nothing wrong with his blood, no clotting issues, but the tests showed he has a calcification in one of his deep veins. They said they've never seen this before and left us with him wearing a compression stocking because they are afraid his vein valves will weaken over time. It's not very comforting to hear that this is new to them. They said surgery would be too risky so that's not an option. We are thinking about talking to our pediatrician to recommend a vascular specialist. Is there anyone out there who's child has this? I can't find anything on the internet, and it doesn't help that I don't have a "term" for what he has. It seems like it's gotten worse and I'm sick with worry over it. Even if it's nothing, I'd like to hear that from a doctor or someone who's child is in the same situation. Please help if you can!!
