Poop accidents

Hi all,

It's been a while since I posted. I have a 4 year old who has been completely toilet trained for a year and a half. This week, all of a sudden, he has started having major accidents of the fecal kind.

A little history: Until six weeks ago, he was in a home daycare situation where he napped every day. Now he goes to preschool and does not nap. He loves school and can't wait to go in every day and gets seriously bummed out when it's time to go home at the end of the day.

He has never been the kind of kid who has willingly pooped anywhere but home. Somehow, he has always managed to schedule his body to go at home or in a pinch, he has gone elsewhere. I didn't expect it to be a snap for him to go at school but this is been extreme.

He says that he doesn't know that he needs to go and that he is having too much fun to stop.

I asked his teacher to prompt him to go and she has but he is still dodging it.

Some more info: Since starting school he has been very tired in the late afternoons and has been very cranky, bossy and upset. In the mornings - he is pretty happy and very eager to get ready to go. (We used to fight every day about going to daycare.)

My question is; is it possible for a kid to regress like this and not have it be a sign of something horrific? Could he just be exhausted?

Any insight (or "oh that happened to my kid" stories) would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jen
