Question 5 year old bump on head

My 5 year old boy has a large 1 inch in diameter lump on his head which feels soft to the touch. It is quite elevated and I am worried. He doesn't remember bumping his head at all. I wonder if it is an insect bite but it doesn't look like it. It's in a spot where everyone has a little bump on their head on either side, and my husband says that side has been a little elevated anyway. We think it has something to do with the fact that he has hit his head a few times in the past, and the bump has been slowly growing, but today the bump is really big all of a sudden. Help!!!
