my 12 mo old baby :( any answers would help

My 12 month old little girl…

So, yesterday we made a 911 call for our little girl, she was completely lethargic, and was just fine the night before.. She seemed like she couldn’t even open her eyes. She had been eating fine, drinking very well.. She had diarrhea a couple times, but I assumed it was teething or shots she just had a couple days ago. And the diarrhea was the day after the shots and stopped the night before.
We get to the hospital and doc. Automatically sais dehydrated, I literally had to fight with him to even check her damn vitals. And she was not dehydrated!
She was sleeping the whole time in the hospital so at this point she went to bed at 7 pm the night before and besides me getting her up for her bottle earlier still has been sleeping.. Right now it is 1:45 she got blood drawn, and screamed then went back to sleep within seconds. She then got a catheter and again went back to sleep within seconds. Doc. Found some Keytones in her urine which pretty much says she was not eating right ( BUT SHE WAS EATING FINE ) and her urine was also concentrated which says dehydration..
She gets fluids. Not for dehydration because she wasn’t dehydrated enough.. But because there was no sugar in her system, and she was basically making keytones. Burning her fat instead of burning her energy from food.
So sugar water.
It is now 2:45 we are getting discharged and my daughter is still sleeping. So far I count about 20 hours ( SO FAR) discharged with the same vitals that we came into the ER with.. Nothing else they could do.
We get home and she has horrible diarrhea… bad bad bad…… the constancy of water..
Then she went back to bed at around 3:45 and slept until 5 woke up, drank a bottle and went right back to bed.. I woke her up every 3 hours to get more fluids in her.. plus I was checking on her constantly!!
So pretty much slept more than 24 hours.
This morning she wakes up happy as could be..
We went to her doc today and she said that she had no idea what this could be and we would just have to wait it out to see if it happened again.

Her other medical problems in the past.
She has something with her epolitic gland; it does not open and shut properly.
Which causes her to be a louder breather than most babies… ( I went through 4 docs that told me I just had a loud baby before I could get someone to tell me what this was) and then the doc told me “ not to worry about it unless my daughter turned blue” and that with surgery it normally gets worse..

Doc thought she had acid reflux, and either she grew out of that, or it didn’t exist.
Doc thought she had allergies.. Lactose and tolerant, but either she grew out of that or it didn’t exist.
Then she is and has been on the smaller end of the charts. She was in the 2 percentile, up until the last 3 months, and she has gone up on the charts and is now in the 20th or so percentile.
She has lost 1 lb during this sickness alone.

So the ER visit… she was limp, wouldn’t stand, wouldn’t open her eyes, we had to continually talk loudly to her just so we could see the little slivers of her eyes trying to open.. No fever… went diarrhea 2 times the day before…and drank about 3----- 8 oz bottles after that and another 8 oz bottle in the morning ….
When I woke her up that morning, I she took her bottle just fine. But throughout the whole morning.. even while feeding I knew something was wrong. It got worse after her bottle.

Can anyone give us any answers? Other than I DON’T KNOW..

sounds like a nasty virus. With diarrhea, they do get dehydrated very fast, even if they seem to be drinking enough. It is hard to tell with your post, but I assume she is home now and feeling better? It could be a virus or maybe she was reacting to her shots. How many shots did she get and how long later did she start to feel sick?

Did they check her for Celiac Disease? if she was in the 2nd percentile I think she would have been labeled "failure to thrive" and admitted to the hospital..glad to hear she's up to the 20th percentile. My DS had a milk allergy which caused severe gas, reflux, nighttime issues..he grew out of it around 9 months old. It never hurts to get a second opinion.
