my 10 yr. old daughter sprained her wrist. took her to get an xray and they said it was not broke but a sprain. she can move it but it is slightly swollen. she really cant recall how she landed/hit it. she is to wear a brace and ice it for the next week. if there was ligament damage would she be able to move it or what would be another sign? she takes gymnastics and just wondering how long she may have to sit out. any related info. would be appreciated. thanks.
Technically a sprain is a ligament injury, but a light one. Slightly damaged ligaments usually heal fine with a little rest.
Basically, just keep an eye on it. If there's been no improvement after a week, or if it's still bothering her in a month, take her back to the doctor.
