8 year old boy with compulsive type behaviour. Is this a sign of something else?
Please Help, any suggestions would be good.
2 years ago I had my son (who was six then) assessed by child mental health as I was concerned about certain behaviours, he would only wear a certain colour sock to school, and had to do things a certain way, for example he would only write on the white board in a black pen, he has his routines and will get really upset if his routine is broken for what ever reason. The nurse who assessed him told me everthing was Ok it is just his personality and I have nothing to worry about.
Since then however I believe things have got worse, he had an absolute melt down this morning, went back to bed in tears because I had got the wrong bread (It was still wheatmeal that we always get, just I different brand, tastes exactly the same). He still will only wear read socks to school (and many other little things similar to this), and he still gets extremely upset if his routine is broken. He is otherwise a very happy content child, he has friends and plays well with others (however spends his school discos hiding under a table). He is a well behaved child, no other behaviour concerns, and is an average student at school. When things do go wrong he gets upset will call himself "stupid", I hate seeing him so upset over things that other children never seem to worry about.
Please help, is this just his personality or is there something else going on?
Does anyone on here have a child with similar behavour that they have an explanation for?
Am I just a an overworried mother?
