need too much sleep

I seem to need too much sleep most often. When I work during the week I get like 8 or 9 hours but I am so tired when I get up. But on other days when I dont need to get up at a certain time I can sleep about 12 hours or so and usually dont feel like its enough. It usually just gets worse too like last night i slept 13 hours and I have been up not even 8 and feel so tired I cant stand it!

First, get a medical opinion. Get checked for mono, EBV, I would do thyroid, diabetes, and a basic blood pannel. It is possible that the 8 hours you get during the week is not enough. Don't believe it when people say EVERYONE needs 8 hours sleep a night because it isn't true; everyone's body is different, and some people sleep only5-6 hours a night and funtion normally because that is all they need a night; other people need 10-11 hours. It is also wise not to sleep in and make up for lost sleep on the weekends, it messes up your internal clock. Try getting some books on insomnia, and it tells you how to determine how much sleep you need.

you might also need to look at the quality of sleep you are getting. You should be assesed for possible sleep disorders too like apnea or periodic limb movement disorder. Things like that may make you need to sleep longer because you are not sleeping as well.
