Re: Licorice Root Powder?
Cake 2, before using this supplement, I'd recommed that you see your doctor first and have your cortisol levels tested properly. If adrenal insufficiency is suspected, the doctor will most likely run a blood testing procedure known as the Cortrosyn stimulation test to see how well your adrenal glands respond and if they are secreting the appropriate amounts of cortisol. If this comes out fine, then there is no need for the licorice powder. If it turns out that you do have low cortisol, then the standard treatment is, of course, low dose corticosteroids.
I'd recommend using the standard medications like prednisone or hydrocortisone over licorice anyday as they are proven clinically. Keep in mind that adrenal insuffiency is NOT the same illness as CFS even though there are some overlapping patients out there. It's best to always get this checked out first before attempting to self treat.
Hope that helps and please ask questions if you have any.
