Citalopram helped the flu like symptoms

Hi All

I have had CFS for 10 years now and have tried everything under the sun to get better. My main symptoms apart from fatigue are that constant feeling like you have a virus, swollen glands sore throat, chills, virus in brain. I recently started an anti depressent called citalopram and within 24 hours the flu like symptoms had almost disappeared. Its not a miracle cure I still have to pace and I am sure it won't work for eveyone but I have had it on 3 separate occasions now in past 18 months and its has had the same effect. It increases serotonin but I presume it must help the immune system also. Maybe helps an overactive immune system like we may have.

That's wonderful, Rebecca! Have you done treatments before this to address infections or immune system dysfunction? Anyway, always glad to hear that people are improving.

Re: Citalopram helped the flu like symptoms

Yes I have tried everything from accupuncture, perrin, reflexology and loads of different supplements to try and help the horrible flu like symptoms but nothing worked. PAcing helped to a point but still woke up every morning with sore throat and swollen glands. Its really strange as after I have taken citaopram for first time I can feel things in my brain going back to normal, like that horrible virus feeling going away. But I made the mistake of thinking it was miracle cure first time and rushed out and started doing loads of things and had relapse so I still have to be careful what I do.
