If she had the Epstein Barr virus that causes mono, it can be reactivated at any time. It usually happens when the body is under stress and the immune system is weakend. It certainly can happen. She can get an Epstein Barr test and they can tell by the test if the virus has been reactivated.

Thanks so much for the info.....that sounds awful! I had no idea what a horrible disease mono could be like to linger in one's body! Good luck to you!!
I've had it three times. Once at 22, once at 26, and now I'm 30 yrs old and I have had it for about 9 months. It is getting better, but if I push myself too much I will feel exhausted for a few days. My Epstien Barr seems to get reactivated a lot. My dr thinks I have chronic EBV.

yes, I think I have Epstein barr also; I've had it for 35 years. it comes and goes. I get sick with flu like symptoms, then 90% of it goes away...still have 10% residual. tried gamma globulin IM, 5 ml each buttocks; seemed to work. also Neupogen SQ works.
Thank you so very much!!! I appreciate you taking the time to reply....I'm sorry to hear of the terrible symptoms this horrible "disease" creates for what seams can be a lifetime!! Good luck to you!!
I just got over the initial EBV attack. Now my blood tests show evidense of EA [early antigen] and anti-vca. I'm trying to buy some IVIG on the internet...we will see if that helps?
