Re: No Appetite? Anyone else have this problem?

Have you been tested for adrenal problems? I've had CFS and gut problems for years including low appetite. Last year however my adrenals totally crashed, and I was having CONSTANT severe hypoglycemia, but had no appetite and was nauseous all the time. Had to eat anyway of course, but felt sick so often and sometimes vomited with it. After getting onto adrenal treatment, it took a while for my body to get used to the meds but i finally got my appetite back and now i eat more than ever, lol.

Have you tried anything for the appetite? Such as bitter herbs etc? Try liquid gentian extract, that can stimulate appetite alot. Also try licorice root powder/capsules or liquid herbal extract. Can help the gut linings and is an adaptogen, helping energy, blood pressure if needed, etc.

What are your other symptoms? Do you have CFS etc?

Re: No Appetite? Anyone else have this problem?

Well I had the ACTH stimulation test done and it made me feel really good that whole day. But it came back normal. I had blood work done and I cant quit remember what the hormone was called I think it was something along the lines on hypercorticole or something that sounds like that the lab ranged were like 5-90 and mine were 8 so I dont know if that is relivent or not. I was just recently (3 days ago) was undiagnosed with Lupus and Rediagnosed with CFS and we are going to do the immune functioning test to see if I have CFIDS. anyways here are my symptoms:

Fatigue
Worn out WAY easily
headaches
if i do to mch the day before i wake up with diahrea
loss of appetite
weight loss
my thyroid is borderline hyperactive
hypoglecemia
low appetite (fluxuates)
i have an ulser
i have anxiety attacks
i get knots in my muscles after a short amount of activity
my knees hurt but they dont swell
i have sinus problems.... im constantly having post nasal drip
im extreamly sensitive to medicine. the reg dosage is usually to high for me
im sensitive to the heat and cold but mainly heat
my palms and feet get sweaty/clamy alot
i get mild insomnia sometimes.
my menstraul cycle is late now about a week everytime (used to never happen)
extremely painful periods!
i feel like i just cant handle stress very well i usually get sick if im stressed
i sometimes get a low grade fever for no reason
my BP is on the lower side
I think that about sums it up lol

It might do you good if you got tested for Lyme Disease.

Re: No Appetite? Anyone else have this problem?

OK. If you had the ACTH stim and it was normal but you felt BETTER that day, it means your adrenals still work when stimulated, but you might have a fair degree of adrenal fatigue. Sure sounds like it with that list of symptoms as they are all sypmtoms of adrenal fatigue. I was so underweight for a few years before being diagnosed with adrenal insufficiency, and now i have gained 13kg (28lb) since starting cortisone back in october last year. I dont mind because i just look much more normal now instead of being extremely drawn and underweight. I havent even changed my diet the weight just came on once starting the drugs.

If you felt good for the day of the ACTH stim, it's because it stimulated your glands to make more cortisol (the main reason for the test) hence feeling good. You should definitely try licorice root extract - best in a tincture form, or you can get powder or capsules. I'd start with 300mg a day, and you can raise it gradually if no side effects etc. Also get some PABA and Pantethine. With those three if it is adrenal fatigue, you should absolutely feel better within days, and it should help the hypoglycemia etc. Also licorice root heals ulcers better than almost anything, so that's another good reason to take it.

I also have alot of those symptoms, but many have improved on the cortisone. Others haven't changed much. I still dont have energy etc, but the most severe symptoms of awful shakiness, cold intolerance, fried nerves, hypoglycemia etc have been helped alot by it.

A great book to get is "Adrenal Fatigue, 21st Century Stress Syndrome" by Dr Wilson. Excellent advice in there to try, praised by many.

Re: No Appetite? Anyone else have this problem?

I cant gain weight to save my soul! lol I'm 21 and I haven't had a baby so my metabolism is high. But I'm 5'7 and weigh 111.5 lbs. I do eat healthy I try to eat low carb and no sugar because my endocrinologist said that will help stable out my sugar levels and it does help. As for everyone saying to get tested for Lyme Disease. I'm pretty sure I was when i first got sick, I will definitely look into it more. I will also get some licorice root. The hypoglycemia is almost worse to have then the CFS lol. What are the side effects of Licorice root? Also what is Pada and Pantethine? It sure does sound like adrenal fatigue. although over the last 6 weeks I have been feeling a ton better! I'm still not normal obviously but I'm having more good days then bad for once.

Re: No Appetite? Anyone else have this problem?

Hehe, I was the same for YEARS 'till i got onto the cortisone, now the weight has come on SO fast. It's like cortisone has enabled my body to use food like a 'normal' person would or somethng. I look better for it as i was 114lb late last year and am 5'9 male! Now im 65kg (143lb) which is the heaviest ive been since early/mid 2000 before i got alot of gut problems. I *had* that very high type of metabolism, not a skeric of fat on me, before the cortisone. It increases fat storage and generally helps the body use carb, protein and fat better if needed.

Low carb can be good for many things. I get a bit too weak and shaky without carbs but am trying to at least lower them at the moment. I haven't in the past beacause any time ive tried with my high metabolism, i lose weight SOO fast and look terrible. Ive needed tons of carbs most of the last 9 years just to maintain any weight at all (about 120-125lb max).

Licorice could help alot - especially with blood pressure if that is low. Also i gained some needed weight (just a bit) when i started it as it helps retain fluid which is often needed with CFS and low BP.

Oh one thing - just how 'low carb' are you? Yes it 'helps' blood sugar levels, but mainly for diabetics & those who are prone to higher blood sugar, so helps it stay low. If you have CFS and hypoglycemia, very low carb will often make the hypoglycemia worse - this is especially true for thin build people, I hear it all the time (and certainly the same for me). Low GI could be better for you. 6 small meals a day with protein and fat, and some complex carb like a bit of sweet potato.

Licorice - can cause high blood pressure is the main side effect, but most of us that tend towards low/very low BP dont get high BP from it unless you overdo the dose. It's very individual though, so you can just try it out and see how it goes (I have a digital BP monitor * commercial website removed by hb-mod, moderator *
to keep an eye on it).

As for PABA and Pantethine, they are both in the B group of vitamins, para amino benzoic acid, and pantethine is just the active form of B5, which helps the adrenals a lot. * Instructions for internet search, and commercial link, removed by hb-mod, moderator *
. It's quite a great story and this method this person has used would and does help many people with adrenal fatigue.

Glad to hear things are improving anyway!

Re: No Appetite? Anyone else have this problem?

I'm not on an EXTREME low carb, just try and stay away from senseless carbs aka candy, soda etc. I still eat bread and pastas and such i just make sure its wheat. I make my main part of my meal protein and i try and eat lots of veggies. oh and i also eat about 8 to 9 meals a day. I have learned the more often I eat the easier it is for me to eat appetite wise. I eat 3 breakfasts (small!) 2 lunches and 2 dinners and then i eat peanut butter and sugar free jelly on some toast right before bed. I do still eat sugar but i make sure i eat it when i just got done eating something substantial that way it doesn't spike and fall.

I do have lower BP so that wont be a problem. I am definitely going to be trying these! Is there a test I can get done to see if I have adrenal fatigue? and is that a normal part of CFS? or is it its separate thing?

Thanks Chris! Your so great!
