CFS & amenorrhea

Hi, I've just wondered if any of you have had their periods stop? I went on the contraceptive pill at 19 as I'd always had irregular, painful periods. I'd go for months without having them. I started getting ill that same year, starting with IBS, rashes, etc. This year I've been diagnosed with CFS & I came off the pill around 6 months ago. I've still had no period, have been having awful outbreaks of spots on my forehead and feeling really unwell (headaches, muscle aches, joint aches, nausea, dry eyes, etc). Also, I have the darkest circles under my eyes and I never had these when I was younger so they aren't hereditary.

I'm really worried as I'm only 23. I've been reading that something is wrong if your periods haven't returned after 6 months off the pill. Does this sound like hormonal issues? I want to get referred to a specialist but I feel so much worse after going to see my doctor as they are always so unsympathetic. I feel like I have no support at all.

Re: CFS & amenorrhea

Well, I've had irregular periods my whole life too (try one period a year). It's my belief that the longer you go without a period, the more painful it is when it finally comes. But anyways, I did go to an OB-GYN and was told that I have high amounts of testosterone in my system. Do you have hirsutism (excessive hair growth) and acne too? Well, my OB-GYN basically told me that having a hormonal imbalance is way more common than I thought, and BC pills were the easy solution. Taking a break from BC is good too, but if you have a hormonal imbalance, it will take a little longer for your body to get back on track (whatever on track is for you). BC pills don't actually restore you to a 28-day cycle if you never had one to begin with. I would recomment staying on BC and just taking a break from it once in a while. You may need fertility drugs when you plan to have kids (I know I do).
