Time to say NO to any more injections?
I had 5 trigger point injections (with cortisone) in my ribs two weeks ago. I always get increased pain/muscle spasms for 3-5 days after a cortisone injection, but this time it still hasn't improved even two weeks later. Since I normally take meds only during the day and not at night this has really reduced the amout of sleep I'm getting. I see my PCP this afternoon since the PM doc said "I don't know what's wrong, it's probably a GI problem or cancer - nothing more I can do" and sent me back to her. I've had so many injections in the last year and a half and none of them have helped other than the nerve blocks and that only for a short time (2-3 weeks). I'm open to other forms of treatment, but so far the only things that have helped are the muscle relaxer, oxycodone, massage, and for my shoulder PT. The PT I did this summer has pretty much resolved my shoulder problem, it's not 100% yet but I'm still working on strengthing it. Resolving the shoulder problem helped the neck too, but the arthritis and bone spurs are still there.
I think it's time for me to say "no more cortisone" at least for a while. Given that the last ones made things worse is this a reasonable decision? Hopefully my PCP will be able to give me a better idea what might be going on. I really think it might be myofacial pain.
