Question Fentanly patch

First I would like to say hi,and this is my first time on this site. I realize that any feed back is an (opinion only, and I will respect that as such.I want to try my best to abide by all the rules, and the deepest respect to others. With that said I am only 45 years old,and have had several hip, pelvic reconstruction, and ankle Surgeries. Also I just went through 7 months of chemo treatment. I carry a Health Portfolio Note book around with me to all Doctor appoiontments so I can ask direct questions to them, and this Notbook helps me keep all my Records , and questions in order. My Doctor told me 9 months ago that the Patches have a wide variance from patiant to patiant. My 75mcg. patch was working fine for the longest time, but I like to get out doors quite abit. Especially in Spring, Summer, and Fall. Recently, When it started getting extreamly hot out side I noticed my patch not working as well as it preveously did in May. Even though I have always put it on every 48 hours for the last 9 months, because my body chemestry eats the medication up in 48 hours (easily). The last couple months (June, and July) I notice a change, and I don't think it is all Tolorance related, because my instint release still works ok in the morning, and the 75mcg. patch worked great through last winter, and this Spring, but when the middle of June came, and then now going through July 2010, and it was extreamely hot every day (BAM). I noticed a change. So I know its something to do with the patch. Not the brand, just the patch in general.(" Has anyone ever experienced this in the Summer months?"). I even use the tagaderm patch on top of the fentanly patch for a safty back up so the patch keeps firmly in place from time to time, but I want the patch to breath so I only use the Tagaderm when I feel the patch may come off due to sweating. I still notice a change in the ineffectiveness in pain control, because now it is not lasting the whole 48 hours. I do not feel tired or any weird side effects eccept more pian than a month ago. I just know the patch is not working as well as it did before it got hot out side these last two months. I would appreceate any Opinions. Thanks. Sincerely, Painbegone

Re: Fentanly patch

Painbegone, (great name)

Hi, I just wanted to welcome you to the healtboards...it's a great place with a lot of friendly and knowledgeable folks, happy to share what they know.

I am new to pain, but not to illness. I have not used the patch, but I am sure someone will be along soon to answer your questions. Until then, I wish you the best!
