Please help me , so much pain

It started some years ago where i would wake up in the middle of the night in pain between my rib cage low down. This was very sporadic whereby some weeks it would be ok and others not so. I ended up having my bed raised because i believed it was acid. 3 Months ago the pain started to get worse and i was on trials of different medication with an upcoming hospital appointment. I went to the hospital and was diagnosed with a small hitial hernia 5cm and it took me some weeks to recover even from the camera. It felt as if i had crushed my insides!

However in the last two months i'm really starting to wonder if something else is going on. I'm in such severe pain throughout the day , if i go to the gym or if i go out for a drive , even my photography hobby i end up crying in agnoy. I have trouble sleeping and it's woken me up nearly every night , i need sleep .The pain is in the area of the sternum internally , between the rib cage , Sometimes it's very sore to touch around one side of the sternum and below the rib cage. Imagine being cut on the inside and TCP being poured on it. Last week the pain was so bad i felt as if i couldn't breath and became very dizzy. The only slight relief i used to have was stretching right out or putting my arms out as if my whole chest feels cramped.

It also doesn't matter what types of food i have , i don't even belch up heartburn or acid another reason why i don't believe it's the HH

I'm really struggling with life now because it's being ruined

Please Help Me! I've been to the doctors so many times now and my heart results/blood pressure is ok.

I'm autistic so please excuse any post spelling mistakes

p.s I used to be 14stone(UK Weight) now i'm only 11 stone in just a few months

Re: Please help me , so much pain

Hi Neil, I'm Fabby.
First of all, you are not alone! Everyone here knows what it's like to be in horrible pain, and scared about the outcome. You can ask questions, talk, or just vent here and you will always be among friends. And we don't care about your spelling, either, lol.

I am so sorry you are going through this, I know when I first had a ruptured disc in my neck, I was in agony for months, the pain went all the way through me, I wasn't even sure it was my spine. I also had horrible nerve pain all the way down one arm. Three fingers that were like dead wood, and an iron band feeling around my upper arm.

I went to doctors over and over and over, they kept giving me vicodin, or percocet, telling me it was a torn trapezoid muscle, or something. One ER doctor smugly told me if I had a ruptured disc, They would know, because I would be screaming. I offered to scream. He was not impressed.
FINALLY I got my family doctor to order more test, and an MRI found the trouble, I had surgery but by then the nerve pain was permanent, so I have been on pain control ever since.

The most important thing is, do not give up! I know it stinks, but you have to keep going back, demanding more tests, until they find out what it is. I know you are also scared it may be something really serious, I know I was. But chances are good that even if it IS something serious, they can probably treat it, and they can for sure make you more comfortable. It's always better to know. Plus they treat you a lot better once they know you arent a faker. That part is really hard to take when the pain is so bad, you want to just shake the bejabbers out of them until they wake up and see how bad off you are!!

Please keep posting, hang in there, let me know how you are doing. I care.

Your Friend, Fabby

Re: Please help me , so much pain

Thankyou for your kind reply and it's true i'm not alone although we do feel alone in times of such pain

I've got a scan on saturday for gallbladder issues just incase it turns out to be that because many of the problems i'm getting are very similar. But i've also noticed lately that the back of my throat is sore red and i'm bringing up phelgm more than i've done before

Re: Please help me , so much pain

Hi again Neil,

It for sure could be gall bladder attacks, my sister had them for 3 solid years before they found out what it was and did the surgery.
It could be so many things, that's why you have to keep pushing them to keep looking, I know how awful it is to have to advocate for yourself while in pain, but it seems to be the way of the world now. I think you are in the UK? I think it is similar here to what we have if we have a closed plan insurance, where you see one primary doctor, who sends you to specialists for tests and things, and then E.R. or urgent care for emergencys.

As far as the sore throat, I think along with the weight loss, it could be so many things, but it also could be that your primary problem, whatever is causing your pain, has you not sleeping or eating much, which leads to a general run down condition and weak immune system. So until you know what's wrong, I wouldn't try to guess and make yourself worry more. If you think about it, it is not at all surprising that you would have lost weight and have a cold, given the stress, pain, and loss of sleep.

Hopefully someone has had similar symptoms to yours, and can give you a more specific idea of who to see, or what types of tests to have. I think for now, ruling out the gall bladder is a great idea.

Hang in there, keep posting, It helps.

Re: Please help me , so much pain

It sounds like costochondritis. Is the pain on your left or right side? I have costo and have pain like you describe.

Re: Please help me , so much pain

Have they done tests for gallbladder problems? If not that may be something to ask for. Once you said "under ribcage and below" it sounded similar to gallbladder symptoms.

Re: Please help me , so much pain

Gallblader , pancreas , lungs e.t.c all scanned today and everything has come back perfectly normal. However when he pushed the ultrasound equipment down my center between my rib caged it was rather painful. Yet he could see nothing on the scan

Causes of Pain in Xiphoid Process

Quote:
There are varied factors concerning pain in xiphoid process. Generally, xiphoid pain is triggered by harmless activities such as lifting heavy objects or bending and even large meals can start pain attack or xiphoid process.
What Is Xiphoid Process?

Quote:
If you are experiencing pain and discomfort in the lowest portion of your sternum or the bone that connects to the ribcage, then you must be experiencing xiphoid process syndrome. For non-medical practitioners or somebody who is not so familiar with medical terms, surely you must be wondering what is xiphoid process pain because it is a condition that is not so common
EDIT : Just tried it myself by pushing on my sternum area and sure enough it hurts and has actually made the pain slightly worse ( oops ). I'm wondering if after doing weight training and sometimes too heavy has damaged it in some way. The ultrasound pushed across that area was very painful aswell!

Re: Please help me , so much pain

Hello! My heart goes out to you; just by reading your post I can "hear" your pain.
I been thru a lot myself and learned one big lesson: go and knock in a doors, many doors until you find a DR who is knowledgable, who cares. It took me years to find wonderful group of Drs to be diagnosed in one year with MS, RA and Lupus! Not to mention with spinal fusion surgeries syndrome.

I feel horrible that I trusted local "stars" and missed so much time; now my conditions are not "mild" but severe with a lot irreversible damages. Do not wait, find yourself a great hospital and look up in Internet who would you like to see. Usually i made app with the top Dr of that department.
I think for the beginning you need a good Internist and then go from there. Do not trust everything if you know in your heart that problem is not what they tell you. (In my case instead of MS, RA and Lupus i was diagnosed with Fibromyologa and chronic fatigue syndrome, can you believe?) But I knew this is not what I suffer from, done a lot of research and now I am in a better place. Try your best, do your homework and start going to a good Dr. When I go to see my Doctors at HSS in NYC, I meet there so many people from all over the world, from so many states! People who are tired to go from one dr to another and still feeling sick.

Hugs and blessings, Moldova

Re: Please help me , so much pain

hello Neil. Sory to hear you're suffering. I suffer from chronic pain constantly, 24/7.
I also hardly sleep.

Your primary care physician should give you Oxycontin. They manfacture this in the u.k. from what I understand. I take oxycontin and it helps me. I"m just back to it again. I stopped for a while.

From what I read here, doctor in England do not want to rx(prescribe)narcotic pain meds. BUT I've seen here some people whose doctors gave them morphine. You will just need to find that doctor.

England is not an easy country to get narcotic pain meds eventhough they manufacture it there.

I'm so sory you're suffering day and night. I hope things will get better over there in England with the pain management. I really recommend Oxycontin.
