Unhappy Need pain management in raleigh, nc

Help, my doctor just left a month ago. No notice. New doctor will not prescribe medications I have been taking for last 15 years. I do not know what to do. I am so afraid of withdrawal and having a heart attach during same. No one will help.

Umm, not sure why your worried about having a heart attack...unless you have heart problems. Withdrawals would be unpleasant and nasty certainly....but shouldn't cause a heart attack. Since you're in Raleigh you are in easy distance of Duke and UNC, both have large pain management centers. You can contact both for an appointment and see which you prefer.

If you do have to withdraw, try and taper down slowly rather than take your full dose up until the last pill then stop cold.

Also, if you do have to go through withdrawals, along with tapering as much as you can, have a supply of stomach easing meds such as Zantac, Pepcid, or pepto bismal, something of these nature to help keep your stomach somewhat calm. Have you called Duke or UNC yet to see about an appt? There are also Advanced Pain Consultants in Raleigh, North Carolina Pain Management Clinic in Raleigh.

The duke clinic is called, "The Duke Raleigh Diagnostic and Interventional Pain Clinic". I mean the Triangle, which is what the Chapel Hill, Durham, Raleigh area is referred to is literally teaming with Pain Management docs. It's one of the largest and most renown medical area's in the world. You should not have any trouble finding a pain doc here. Have you asked your old doc for a reference? Or your family doc if you have one?

Let us know how it goes.
