Hi all,
I'm brand new to this forum and wondering if I could get some help.
My PM just quit his practice and basically left MANY MANY people in
need of medication for pain (including me) high and dry! I'm extremely
bothered by this and absolutely dread any type of withdrawal. I am
on 30mg methadone tid and 30mg oxycodone qid for breakthrough
pain due to 3 bulging discs and spine degenerative disease.
Can anyone point me in the right direction as far as a new,caring
pain management doctor that won't give me grief for being on
the only thing in the entire world that HELPS my back pain and lets me
function as a normal human being? One comment I absolutely HATE
hearing is "You're just too young to be on those kinds of pain medications."
I'm almost 38 years old,if I'm "young" enough to be going through this
debilitating, HORRID, life altering pain, why am I not old enough to
get something to HELP get rid of the pain???
I don't abuse,snort,shoot,smoke,give,sell,or trade the meds.I never ask
for them early or "lose"or get them "stolen". I just want to be able to go
to work, clean my house,and enjoy the time spent with my family. Nothing more, nothing less.

Guess I should've said where I am at huh? Looking for new PM doctor in the Longview or Vancouver Washington area.And also the Portland Oregon area. Thanks for any help anyone can give me! ;-)

not really. Why cannot you go back to you PCP. THey are allowed to rx long acting med.
Start with Tramadol Extended Release. Doctor rx it no problem. If that bothers your sleep then tell it to your doctor. Honestly, it worked so good for me, it just that it bothered my sleep. BUt I think you should try it cause everyone is DIFFERENT. It works 24/7.

I also have bulging disks. How were you injured like that? Please don't tell me it was a car accident.

38 is not old for pain killers. Of course it is better not to take any meds and CURE this chronic pain but as of today it is not possible. Hopefully in the future.

I also have those bulging disks and hope doctors will be able to fix that in the future.
You know why you are in such a pain? it is because those bulging disks are PRESSING on OUR nerves but doctors cannot do anything about that. I have already asked;;;;;;;

Go back to your PCP start with the tramadol extended 24/7 and go from there.

I know this is very frustrating, I'm sorry about the pain you're experiencing. I agree, in the interim it might be a good idea to talk to your PCP and see if he or she would be willing to treat your pain condition and prescribe medication and your PCP will also be able to refer you to a Pain Management Specialist. By having your PCP in the loop it should expedite getting your medical records to the pain management Doctor and make getting into an appointment easier. Also, your medical insurance might be able to provide assistance in find a Pain Management Doctor. My insurance has all it's specialists online (so I can get more information about their practice, etc.). If the information isn't online, you should be able to call for names that are participants in your plan.

Hopefully, you will also names from forum members here (we are not allowed to post names on the board). So, forum members will send you the information via private messaging.

I hope you locate a Doctor very soon. You're in my thoughts.
