When I was in the emergency room a few months ago because of extreme pain in my right leg they took X Rays and said that I had arthritis in my right hip and lower spine.
While Researching on my own I read that many people with arthritis of the hip have pain in the groin, the upper hip and the knee. This is me exactly due to referred pain.
I got a document that I needed from my doctor recently and he had the diagnostic code as 724.2. Further he wrote "lower back pain and sciatica."
I don't have lower back pain and I know that this isn't sciatica.
I would visit an Orthopedic Dr. and get a 2nd opinion....They can order any other tests if they see this as necessary like an MRI...as well as get an entire view of where the pain is...what you can and can't do because of it..etc..
ER's are not a great place to get a detailed Dr.s visit with a specialist...They are for life/death emergencies...broken bones..etc...this is where the Dr. or Trauma Surgeon on call is going to examine you quickly to determine if you have a life threatening issue.
So...starting with an Ortho should be your best choice...this way they will start from scratch..
Good luck..

Thanks for the response. I should have stated my whole position. I'm getting my insurance through the state (indigent). They won't pay for anything beyond a primary care doctor and X rays.
It is a bit strange regarding what I can and can't get. There is no switching over until (if) I can get SSDI. While I'm not happy with this system, I'm glad to have it.
I applied for Soc. Sec. December 2010. I was denied (normal) and appealed last August. I think that I'll get it. I have a pretty good case with mental health and now am including the arthritis.
