Nortriptyline

Hello Tribe Mates,

My PCP and I just discussed my failure on all SSRI's and Wellbutrin, and my weaning from Opana...... So he just wrote me for Nortriptyline. I had never considered it since it is a tricyclic, but so far it seems like it was a clever pick.

Anyone have any experience with Nortriptyline?

Re: Nortriptyline

It's been my friend for a long time.

Improves sleep, reduces pain. I take 20 mg per day.

The #1 side effect to watch for is dry mouth, which can contribute to tooth decay. You have to be more careful about dental hygiene. In some people it can cause GI issues. (In other people, it improves GI issues.)

See what happens. The good news is, it's super-cheap. I think I paid $14 for my last month's supply, without insurance.

Re: Nortriptyline

I took 75mg at night for about a year for depression and enck pain, found it quite helpful, and despite the bad rep tricyclics have, it was easy to take.... just felt drowsie for the first three days or so. You need to make sure you're taking a theraputic dose - many patients on tricyclics get given small, ineffective doses

Remeron (mirtazapine) is also another good one to consider when SSRI's and welbutrin dont work.
