Taking Nucynta for Nerve Pain - Need Something Else??
Hi,
I've had lower back problems for several years and have been treated with epidural steroid injections with success over the last three years. Approximately 15 months ago, I had an injection and immediately experienced a new "burning" pain in my buttocks, backside of both legs and more prominent in both feet. The pain has never left me and I deal with it on a daily basis. The PM doc has prescribed Nucynta 100mg 3x per day. The Nucynta helps some with the morning dose, but by the 2nd and 3rd dose after I've had food in my stomach, it doesn't help much at all. And then there are times when the pain is peaking and I can't do anything about it. I see my PM doc in a couple of weeks. Can you give me some suggestions of what I can ask for that will provide consistant relief throughout the day and extra help with those peak moments? I appreciate any opinion.
Re: Taking Nucynta for Nerve Pain - Need Something Else??
Hi JD, If your seeing a doc you have to suggest meds to I would suggest finding another doc. Pm docs follow a step method and all you need to do is report how you feel. The next step may be something more gearred towards nerve pain like cymbalta or Lyrica, I wouldn't suggest going in and asking for X mg roxicodone , Let the doc do his job, and if he doesn't know what to do, find another doc. You just need to be the patient, not his source of info as far as what he should try next.
If the doc understands what your expereincing he should know what to do or try next, or he shouldn't be dabbling in PM. Requesting specific meds is a good way to through up red flags and not something I would recomend. You don't know if anything anyone suggest will help if you haven't already tried it, It's your job to try what he suggests, follow his directions and report back. Nerve pain is extremely tough to manage and it often takes a combinations of different meds and aproaches rather than simply a larger dose of a stronger opiate.
