Undiagnosed throat pain- getting worse

About three years ago I began to have pain in my left side throat. It felt like a sore throat, or like a tightness in my throat. I thought drinking lots of hot tea and letting it go down the left side would help. Since that time it has developed into a total left side body issue. I continue to have pain inside my throat, ranging from spikey pain to scratchy pain to itchy inflammatory feeling inside and outside my throat. Additionally, my chest, hip, and left knee have began to ache. The chest is particularly painful, in both the front side and the back. In total, these are my symptoms:

-Pain inside throat
-itching on left outside throat
-Inflammation of left side muscle tissue
-Desire to pop neck constantly
-sternum pain
-one rib popped slightly out in left chest
-left side knee, hip and other joint pain
-left side tends to get more nasal blockage
-feeling of "stuck" in throat
-feeling of blockage when swallowing
-left side jaw pain
-severe jaw popping (related to TMJ?)

I have been to several specialists. Here are the things that I have done that have been inconclusive or ineffective:

-x-ray
-CAT scan
-endoscopy
-tonsillectomy
-6 months working with a naturopath
-8 sessions accupuncture
-4 sessions massage
-several rounds of antibiotics (this does seems to help)

The following things make my symptoms worse:
-drinking
-occasionally certain foods activate it immediately afterwards(caffiene, chocolate, cold drinks)
-stress
-lack of sleep
-poor spinal use
-overuse/raising of left arm
-overthinking it

What makes it better (but not okay):
-conscious relaxation of throat
-always better in the morning
-massage

It seems to have gotten worse recently, not necessarily the throat itself but the pain in the chest and rest of the left side. It is so bad it is interfering with my normal exercise routine and, needless to say, it is very stressful and worrisome.

Re: Undiagnosed throat pain- getting worse

I am so sorry for your pain; I know how hard this is when nobody can put the end to it.
I am not a Dr of course, but I will share with you something about throat pain.
My daughter has it for many years. But we know why: acid reflux. She cant swallow, it feels like something stack in her throat, constant pain. It gets very dry sometimes...
My throat pain went for years as well, but it was discovered that I have neck problems, and believe or not it feels like you got throat pain. After right diagnoses, I had steroid shot 2 weeks ago and my throat feels better too. I also felt like food stacks in my throat and I couldn't swallow.

I don't know what the problem you have, but as you can see how everything related in our system. Who would think that neck issues can give throat issues?
So maybe your Dr has to look a tad deeper?

Wishing you all the best
Moldova

Hey! This is probably the most unlikely/bizarre thing to happen in a long while. I am also in Greenville, SC and my symptoms are almost exact to yours. I am a 25 year old male and like I said I have many of the same symptons expect the pain has not really moved to the rest of my body. I have had most all of the tests that you describe but none of the specialist seem to know or really care what is causing this constant pain. I know that you posted this over a year ago so I am going out on a limb here to see if you even check this site anymore. Have you found any relief? And if you had, could you please update me on your treatments. Thanks so much!

Re: Undiagnosed throat pain- getting worse

Have you done MRI of your neck?

Have you been in a car accident (whiplash can cause that).

Tightness in your throat could be (unfortunatelly) caused by muscles, tendons and ligaments.
