Don't you get fed up going to the doctors?

Honestly, don't you fed up going to those doctors?
This chronic pain is rediculous and we have to go to the doctors for years.
It's not like we have a flu and all we have to take is flu medication.
Believe me, doctors prefer those patients who can be cured. Yes, chronic pain frustrate doctors, believe it or not!
It's chronic, and going again and again to those doctors really gets on my nerves.

Yeah, you can compare chronic pain to diabetes but it's not.
Doctors don't see it as diabetes and will not take you that serious about taking meds etc...cause after all, no one died cause of chronic pain.
Obviously, you can get high blood pressure from chronic pain but it doesn't happen overnight and doctors don't care about that.

They really have this power over us. I am starting to see a doctor and feeling sick. THe power he has over me to prescribe me medication. I really fed up going to the clinic. Sitting there. Waiting like an idiot. I feel like an idiot cause I need to go to those doctors.

Let them just find a cure for this nonsense and leave us alone.
This chronic pain is embarassing and frustrating.

Re: Don't you fed up going to the doctors?

Ive been seeing the same PM group for 11 years, I really dont mind the hoops given the alternative. I only have to go every 3 months but they do pill counts, random UA's, if your late, your apt is cancelled. etc. I know the rules and play by them. The first 8 years and dozen or so PM docs was a nightmare. Treatment and meds that didnt work and no alternative.

I haven't seen my GP in 3 years. I do get the getting old part. I have polycythemia , too many red cells and have to go to a hemotologist every 2 weeks and have a RBC done and if if it's High they drain a pint. This has been going on for 2 years and no end in sight. No cure, no cause that can be treated, just blood lettting. That gets old, but if I dont go Im a walking stroke waiting to happen. I think any long term illnes can certainly get old. The care providor seems to make the biggest difference. IMO
Take care, Dave

Re: Don't you fed up going to the doctors?

Yeah it definitely gets old. However, I know these doctor appointments (and meds, alternative treatments, and lifestyle changes) are what is keeping me reasonably functional and with a quality of life. I get more frustrated when I have multiple appointments and make no headway on the issue.

I agree that the majority of doctors get frustrated with patients with difficult cases who don't respond to standard treatments, but a select few enjoy the puzzle, and seeing visible signs in their patients that their quality of life is improved. Those are the ones truly cut out for pain management. I think my current doctors are....it took years to find them though.

My biggest issue is the anxiety I have with the power the doctor has over my life...in one 15 minute appointment it could be decided to take away my meds, and put me into a spiral of withdrawal and uncontrollable pain. But logically I know that I have chosen a good doctor who would not do this (without just cause). I still have some anxiety though. Enough that my blood pressure & pulse are almost always high at any doctor appointment that has any bit of importance.

I don't see a reason to feel like an idiot because I need to see a doctor though. Almost everyone has some type of medical problem. Those that don't surely have something else difficult in their life, such as a money problem, death of a loved one, etc. I'm thankful to have a doctor willing to see me and try their best to effectively treat my pain. Probably because I've seen way too many that have said they don't have any ideas for me. Best wishes.

Re: Don't you fed up going to the doctors?

I wouldn't say I am fed up but sometimes it does get down and I get frustrated. For me, It the amount of specialist doctors that I have and how often I have to go.I have several specialist on top of my primary doctor. I have several specialist because the lupus attacks your organs and tissues. Sometimes it can get overwhelming. Now as far as pain management doctors goes, I don't know too many people who just love going to their pain doctor. Because of the hoops that you have to go through with pain doctors, people dread dealing with all of that. But for patients who really need pain management, it is worth it. Think about if we didn't have them. I have been under pain management for several years. The very first doctor I had was not that bad. As a matter of fact, I hadn't known how strict the DEA had gotten until I had to switch pain doctors due to my old one moving. That is when I realized that it was not easy to get pain management. Just because you have a referral doesn't mean they will take you on as a patient. Luckily, they didn't give me a hard time due to the fact I had medical records to back up my issues. But for patients who are just diagnosed with chronic pain, it can be rough trying to get proper pain management. I can't even count how many times that I seen the receptionist and nurses call the police because of irate patients making a huge scene at the front desk after they have seen the doctor and they are told that they don't need a follow up appointment because there was nothing the doctor can do for them. Or getting upset about the form of treatment the doctor is doing. (they don't want any injections or pt). There is so many people who can't get any pain management. I am very blessed that I have a good pain doctor. We have a great relationship. I have a good relationship with the other staff also (nurses, receptionist). Having a good professional relationship with your doctor, any doctor helps when certain issues arise. When I tell people that, the first thing they say is that I am kissing butt. But I really don't. You have to just built a good relationship with your doctor just like a relationship with a boyfriend/girlfriend. In the beginning you have your guard up, not too sure on what to do or say. We don't know each other so we are being careful with everything. Want to make sure you look your best. The more we communicate the more we start to open up. The more you are around each other the more comfortable you become. After awhile you are passing gas in front of each other. Your guard is down and you have let them in your heart. Yes in the beginning I may have not said some of the things that I say to him now. Yes it is hard to try and relax with someone who is holding your life in his hands. But Doctors can usually tell when a patient is nervous or feeling anxiety. Then of course, the doctor gets suspicious. That's when they are trying to find out why you are so nervous or what do you have to be nervous about. Trust me, when you relax they will too. You have nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed about. They are human just like us.

Re: Don't you fed up going to the doctors?

I have seen at least 8 doctors and at least 10 x-rays, and I have yet to receive any help. The x-rays show nothing, but my kidney specialist and dietitian know of and know why I have this bone pain, yet no doctor will help.

I am on hemodialysis and have been for 7 years. I have had this pain for years but was afraid to ask for help. For the last 7 months I had not been able to exercise because of my knee and heel pain. I have a personal trainers certification that I cannot use because of my constant and unbearable pain. I am practically crawling up and down the stairs.

Anyway, I am frustrated, upset, and worried that I will have to go on disability soon. I do not want my children to see me deteriorate to this point. Thanks for listening to me whine, lol... Now, to answer the topic question... Yes, I am fed up with going to doctors to find someone to help with my pain. I simply cannot find one here. =(

Re: Don't you get fed up going to the doctors?

Yes, I do. I am already so tired.

It hurts me when I am talking about my pain, instead of trying to help me with my physical pain, he stares at me trying to investigate if I have depression or not!

I feel tried, because I feel bad that I am not being recovered and I feel shy about this a lot.

Re: Don't you get fed up going to the doctors?

No wise thoughts or miracles here, just wanted to send out a hug.

All these doc appts do get to you, and you feel so sick and tired, you can't explain to the doc everything you need to! It's sometimes worse to explain to family and friends, just sooooo tiring.

Group Hug !
