Cold, fever and rapid pulse

Two days ago I came down with a cold. Last night I felt chilled and feverish. My temp was only 99. When I went to bed my heart was just pounding. Didn't sleep good, I called the ER, I took another dose of my toprol, another lorazapem and finally went in at 7:00 this morning. My pulse ran from 140 to 160 during the night. It was 120 in the ER. They let me go home after my lorazapam kicked in, my pulse was 98. Its still about 100 and was just wondering if anyone else has problems when their sick. 6 weeks ago I had an infection in my elbow, I ran the same high heart rate then too and felt that same chilled feeling. Let me know if I'm normal. Thanks

Hi - I find that my heart speeds up a lot any time I'm sick, too. I tend to have a fast pulse anyway, and I get anxious easily. When I'm sick, it seems like my heart just has to beat faster because my body is working at fighting something off. I don't know if mine gets up to 140 or 160, though. I do remember one time I had a very bad cold/flu, and I went to the ER. They got temporarily concerned because my pulse was so fast, and they hooked me up to a heart monitor. But then they found nothing abnormal so they let me go. *shrug*

I also know that if you take certain cold medicines, they'll raise your heart rate. Have you been taking anything like that?

Oh, yes, it's very common to have a fast heartbeat, or palpitations, when you have a fever.
