Hi! I got the flu shot for my two year old and eight year old on Dec. 2 .But it was the first time they had ever gotten the flu shot so they had to get one vaccination now and the other one on Jan. 2 .The doctor said this was common practice for anyone under 9 for the first time vaccination. My question is what protection if any do they have until they get their second injection? I know it takes two weeks after the shot to build up in your immune system.So will they have enough protection after two weeks to help fight the flu if they catch it before Jan 2 and the two weeks following that shot?Thanks for any answers!

My six-month old just got his first shot this week. Way it was explained to me the first shot was to protect them from the flu right away -- within two weeks and the 2nd shot was to help them be protected throughout the flu season.
