Brutal flu -can anyone relate

I came down with the flu 2 months ago. I didn't take any medication save for over the counter stuff. Stayed home a couple days and suffered through it. It lasted a few weeks, but then seemed to go away for the most part.

Then, I started wheezing, and suffering from dizziness. The wheezing went on for a couple weeks, and finally I went to see the doctor. He told me I had Asthma!

Now I'm 33, and I've never had any asthmatic symptoms before. Could the flu have damaged my lungs to the point of giving me asthma? I'm on an inhaler (steroid) now, and it is helping, but my God!

I didn't know this could happen.

asthma is not the result of damaged lungs.
asthma is the hyperresponsiveness of the lungs, you may have sickness induced asthma(yes there is such thing) meaning the only thing that triggers your asthma is a cold or flu or some kind of respiratory infection.
either way you might want to consult a lung specialist, especially if you have any history of allergies.
