I really have no idea what is going on in my throat/neck. Of course I've had traditional soar throats and even strep, but this is different. The pain/irritation is there when I swallow, but it doesn't hurt a regular soar throat. What hurts seems like a lump or a little ball on the left side of my neck extending almost up to my ear, possibly my gland? Remember, only when I swallow. It's been going on for a few days. Some friends of mine said I might be getting mono, I don't know how credible that is though. I'm 17 years old.
I took Motrin and it worked a little bit, but now it's coming back and I think it's getting worse.

That lump most likely is a swollen lymph node, which usually indicates an infection somewhere. Usually, where there is infection there is also pain.
Sounds like you need to get to a doctor and get on an antibiotic.
Have you thought about trying a good quality Goldenseal/Echinacea combination? Not the cheap stuff from the grocery store, but something from your local health food store? If what you have is of a bacterial or viral nature that oughta do it, as one works on bacteria while the other works on virus'
