Is it ok to take old prescriptions?? Response needed ASAP

Hi all... back in June, I came down with a terrible cold and my doctor prescribed me Guaifen. Well there is 1 refill on it before 6/30/05. Well this past week, I have come down with a bad cold again and was wondering if its a bad idea to have the prescription from June refilled to maybe help with this cold. Please respond... my head is killing me, my chest is stopped up... i need something and just thought I would ask about that.. thanks!

Hi,

I read that it's a decongestant. You will be able to get the refill no problem since there is one on the prescription and the expiry date is stated. If it worked for me in the past, I wouldn't hesitate to refill it. Since a cold doesn't last for a year, he obviously gave you the option to use it again if the need arose.

There are side effects on that medication, make sure you know all of them.

If your chest doesn't start to clear within the week, you might have a secondary infection. Make sure you see your doc incase you need antibiotics.

And, of course...if you are in doubt, ask the pharmacist or call your doctor about the prescription.

I hope you get better soon,
quincy
