Cough keeping me up at night!!! - Colds & Flu Message Board

This is my first time posting, but I need some advice! A week ago I lost my voice and it still hasn't come back. Shortly after losing my voice I got this terrible dry cough that keeps me up ALL night! I just lay in bed until I am so worn out that I eventually fall asleep. I've taken Robitussin DM which has helped a little, and then Tylenol 3 with codine that I got from the doctor. That helped me to sleep last night, but here I am at 1:00am tonight, still coughing! To top it all off I have a 5 and 1/2 month old daughter, and it's hard to keep up with her during the day when I've gotten no sleep the night before. Any suggestions? How long is this cough going to last? Thanks in advance for your help!

If it has been awhile since you have been to the Doctor, I would probably either call him or go in again to see him. Perhaps you have a sinus in fection. I get them often and when I do, I cough alot at night. It feels like something tickling the back of your throat.

Is it possible to have a sinus infection without having a stuffy nose? I'm not congested, maybe a runny nose every once in awhile. Everything seems to be in my throat. The other day my throat was so sore from coughing that it felt like it was practically swollen shut. As of this morning, my coughs are more productive, not as dry, so hopefully I am getting towards the end of this. I'll try and give my doctor a call again and see what he says. Thanks!

Sounds like you have bronchitis. Better get proper diagnosis so it does not go into pneumonia.
