Question Strange recurring flu-like symptoms - really need help

I've had these strange flu-like symptoms recur every month (just before my period) since Feb 2001, except during my pregnancy from March - Dec '04. My symptoms are always the same and last only two days and then disappear. I start feeling very tired, then have achey joints, mild swollen neck glands and sore throat, then later have night sweats and chills and low grade fever. My achey joints feel the worst, especially my hips, ankles and knees. Occasionally my eyes ache too. And sometimes I'm so sore and cold i have to have a bath every hour just to ease the pain. Tylenol keeps me sane but I just hate getting sick. I've always been the healthy one in my family, very sporty and rarely ill. Now I'm sick like clockwork.

Its strange that the symptoms seem like a virus but they occur around my period and not when i was pregnant, so sometimes i think it may be hormone related. But they also occur when I am exhausted or very emotional (e.g. after an argument or couple of late nights). I just don't know. I've been tested under the sun for Mono, Fibro, Lupus, Lymes, Rheum Arth., Thyroid etc. and the tests always come back negative. I look healthy (altho' tired) so doctors seem rather sceptical. Has anyone got a clue as to what I might have?

Have you been tested for chronic fatigue syndrom?? Just a thought...my mother has that and she has had some of the same symptoms.

Re: Strange recurring flu-like symptoms - really need help

Hey sorebody, I believe I can relate exactly only Im male, but my current g/f is now having the same symptoms as Ive had for some time. I dont have a cycle to scale it on but the symptoms do come and go. I get sick looking when it hits, I seem to lose weight rapidly and urinate alolt. I feel hopeless and guilty that I may have passed somthing like this. Would be interesting to compare further.

go back and get retested for mono. could be it has turned into CFS. There is no real test for Fibro, so that is still a possibility and i have it , and pretty much have the same symptoms except that they are with me 24/7, and i dont have periods since i had a total hysterectomy done at age 26.

Sorebody, this is EXACTLY me. It's very odd that it occurs right before and during my period. I don't get it. I'm at a loss. Have you discovered anything more?
