CAN smoke CAUSE a COLD? - Colds & Flu Message Board

Im really sensitive to cigarette smoke!! The other day, my friends mom smoked in the car with all the windows up for about an hour. when i got out, i had a BIG headache, with a sore throat. now i can't stop coughing, and my head is still pounding!! Do i just have a cold, or can smoke cause these symptoms?

Smoke does not cause colds, but can cause the headache and coughing that you developed from inhaling it. Next time, ask that the window be rolled down for fresh air. Also, smoke can aggravate an illness a person already has and it can take longer for them to heal.

It can, however, be something that causes a chain reaction that results in a sinus infection, which alot of people confuse as a cold! If you're like me, anything that irritates whether you're allergic or not can cause swelling. And swelling for me almost always leads to infection. I have to fight for about 2 days after being around smoke to keep from getting an infection. I use nasal irrigation, which I highly recommend you do a search on!
