Post Green phlegm?? What is it?

My friend has a bad cold and a cough and is coughing up a greenish milky thick phlegm... what is this a sign of - bronchitis, sinusitis, or just a bad cold? Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Cool

Hey Sucha...

this may help...

I have chronic sinusitis problems and at one point
when I went to a sinus doctor he told me the following
info:
Sinus infection- green thick and smelly mucus
Common Cold- strong yellow to mild tan, some thickness
Normal-clear
Allergy-clear and watery
also: sneezing is extremely common for a cold and allergy...but hardly at all to never for a sinus infection

hope this helps!

Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for. Not to be gross, but she's coughing and this is what she coughs up, so would it still be sinus? Thats interesting about the sneezing part, she hasn't been sneezing that I know of...I"ll have to ask her.
Thanks again.

Thumbs up

Sucha...

Maybe I failed to mention that Bronchitis can also cause
infection which inturn produces thick yellowgreen to dark green phlegm. The phlegm is also associated with a deep painful cough that you can almost feel each lung when you cough!...not a great feeling...trust me

Later

Red face

My daughter was diagnosed with Bronchitis yesterday (she's 4 years old) and also had a rough, raspy cough. She threw up thick chunks of phlegm mixed with thin mucous and it was greenish-yellow. Sometimes, it came up kind of tan-colored. (i know it sounds gross, but we're on a healthboard..)
The coughing makes her miserable, and along with everything else, she has fever, chills, and runny nose. If your friend has symptoms accociated with Bronchitis, she should see a doctor. They gave my daughter antibiotics and cough medicine. Good luck!
